PIPE or CARRY FORWARD options allows user to copy specific answer choices from one question and bring them into a future question in the survey. This essentially is a simplified version of adding OPTION CONDITIONS, where instead of adding OPTIONS CONDITIONS one by one, we can simply PIPE or CARRY FORWARD options at once.
1. Toggle ON PIPED OPTIONS under Options and Options Settings.
2. Choose the question you want to PIPE from.
3. Choose if you want to PIPE SELECTED options or UNSELECTED options.
Example for PIPE SELECTED options: We firstly ask which brands the respondents have bought in the last six months. We then PIPE or CARRY FORWARD the options they SELECTED into the next question and ask the respondents to rank their preference from those previously selected options only.
Example for PIPE UNSELECTED options: We firstly ask which brands the respondents have bought in the last six months. We then PIPE or CARRY FORWARD the options they DID NOT SELECT into the next question and ask the respondents to choose which one they will consider buying from unselected options only.
4. Choose whether to Enable Skip. When Enable Skip is toggled on and there's only ONE option gets piped in, the system will automatically select that option and skip the question.
Example where we want to Enable Skip: We firstly ask which brands the respondents have bought in the last six months. We then PIPE or CARRY FORWARD the options they SELECTED into the next question and ask the respondents which one they bought most often. In this case, we won't want the respondents to choose again if there's only one brand selected in the previously question but we still want to auto select that one option as it's the most often purchased brand. Therefore we can choose to Enable Skip in this case.
Example where we DON'T want to Enable Skip : We firstly ask which brands the respondents are aware of. We then PIPE or CARRY FORWARD the options they SELECT into the next question and ask the respondents to choose which one they would recommend to others from selected options only. In this case, we will still want to ask if the respondents would recommend the brand even though there's only one brand selected in the previously question. Therefore we should NOT Enable Skip in this case.
5. For PIPED OPTIONS, we can not add anymore custom options except for the following two type of options.
- A mutually exclusive option, you can select (+) Not Applicable and edit the wording for Not Applicable (for example: None of the above)
- Other responses click on (+) Other, Specify and participants can type in and specify their answer (not in the listed option)
If you want to add more custom options, then you should switch to OPTION CONDITIONS. Please see more details here.
