Modified on Thu, 13 Jun, 2024 at 5:54 AM

Main use:

Similar to a choice question, but by default the scale option is shown only on a horizontal manner. They are usually used to gauge agreement, importance, preference or likelihood.

Using a Scale question vs Choice Question

- By default, the options in a Scale question are already set up/aligned in a horizontal mannerfor participants to easily choose the answer using a full scale.

Standard Choice Question (Scale Type of Question)

- In the standard choice question, making a scale type of question is not aligned by default (but can be modified using the EDIT DESIGN)

How to set up in the platform:

1. In the Questionnaire Builder page, add new question OR insert new question by hovering over an existing question and click the green (+) button (either above or below the existing question)

2. Select Scale from the popup menu that appears.

3. Write your question number or label in the upper box and write your question in the Question Text Box.

4. Add the participants' choices using the Options and Options Settings:

- If adding options by typing choices one by one, click on Add New Options

- If adding options using copy paste from a list, click on Batch Add

- You can also add options using the pre-determined list in the Library, using Add From Library

You can also save the options you created and click Save Options to Library (and it will be added in the Add From Library drop down list)

- If adding options from an existing question, click on PIPED OPTIONS

- To add a mutually exclusive option, you can select (+) Not Applicable and edit the wording for Not Applicable (for example: None of the above)

- To add Other responses click on (+) Other, Specify and participants can type in and specify their answer (not in the listed option)

Limitations of editing the answer options in the Scale Question:

The answer options for a Scale Questions are available 3 formats: Text, Image, or Both (both image and text)

Text Format - when using Text Format, please note that users cannot edit the size of the option (i.e. bigger fonts in the chat/ survey).

Tip: Instead of using Text Format, users should use the Image or Both Format and upload an image version of their scale (either images created in powerpoint) and customize the scale with the uploaded image.

Users can save this customized scale option to the platform (click the button got Save Option to Library) and use it for similar Scale questions.

Note: Please also check the option labels once you upload an image. Make sure to toggle on Advanced Mode to check if you have proper labeling on your options. If you toggle on Advanced Mode, you see the option label below with # (this is the one you will see on the dashboard reports). Please ensure that you have the same label on the upper box label and # label
